Award Recipient: Wanja Munaita | 2014

In 2014 Wanja Munaita received the Helen Joy Russell Bursary Master of Arts Human Security and Peacebuilding. Since her graduation from Royal Roads University in the spring of 2014, she has worked in several overseas volunteer positions. She is currently working with the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) in Uganda. Her work mainly includes researching the issues that affect women and girls in the SIHA countries of operation; Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Uganda. She is also supporting colleagues in gathering data in Arua and Koboko districts of the West Nile region of Uganda with the aim to develop a skills initiative program for market vendors and vulnerable women.
