Wadjda is the first film written and directed entirely by a Saudi woman, in Saudi Arabia. Haifaa Al Mansour’s groundbreaking film offers a glimpse into the contradictions and opportunities ingrained in the characters’ culture. It is the story of a 10-year-old girl who wants a new bike, but it is the realities of the world she lives in that make the real story of the film.
