She will draw on her own experience and lessons from the works of Peter Wohlleben, Robin Wall Kimmerer and other popular writers about trees.

Personal Bio

Lisa Gordon’s life is dedicated to protecting trees. Her Master's degree in Environmental Studies focused on the politics of saving South Moresby (now known as Gwaii Haanas). Her career was with environmental and governmental organizations, most recently with the Islands Trust. In her retirement, she joined Community Trees Matter to speak for the trees in our urban environment. She also offers “Courage Earth” workshops for people who sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the bad news.

Speaker Series: Deborah Curran
April 17, 2019 – 7 pm

Deborah Curran

Executive Director and Associate Professor, Environmental Law Centre, UVIC

Focusing on land use law, Deborah has extensive experience advocating for environmental protections and sustainability. While working with local governments and advocating for smart growth, ecosystem integrity is always ELC's primary goal. The ELC offers free legal research and representation to community organizations, conservation groups, and first nations. It also offers clinical training in public interest environmental law to students through the University of Victoria's Faculty of Law.
Deborah Curran will give us an overview of what types of projects they work on and has invited a student to accompany her. Should be an excellent opportunity to learn about the incredible award winning law research they do.

Register Now – BC AGM – May 3-5, 2019 (Victoria)

Welcome to the 2019 Annual General Meeting of the BC Council of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), hosted by the Victoria Club!

We have an exciting array of speakers and activities that will stimulate your thinking, help you contemplate how we can all be change agents and provide you with opportunities to network and recognize our successes!

This conference is intended to reflect the past, consider the present and dream for the future. This is the 100th Anniversary of CFUW National, the 111th Anniversary of CFUW Victoria and the 30th anniversary of the first BC Council AGM. The speakers and activities are intended to help you consider how we can continue to support the well-being of women and their families through education, advocacy and networking. The conference is intended to celebrate - individually and as a collective! We have SO much to be proud of and we plan to take the time to applaud the work we have done.

Finally, we intend to have fun! Sprinkled throughout the conference are walking tours, receptions, a fashion show, chair yoga and a few surprises along the way!

We are making some exciting changes to the conference this year! There will not be a silent auction, as we will be introducing a new method to support the Charitable Trust. We are using an interactive approach throughout the program with speakers, videos, music, and even a fashion show to show the achievements of women.

We would like this conference to be as environmentally friendly as possible and we are looking at ways to keep our printing to a minimum. Please print any material you may want to reference at home. We will be producing a conference program for all registrants. All voting delegates will receive copies of the resolutions and financial statements. If you have a laptop or iPad, please bring it to the conference to access materials.

Victoria Golf Club (1110 Beach Drive)
Come to the annual S&B Lunch!

The lunch will be held on February 9th, 2019 at the Victoria Golf Club.  This is a chance to meet and mingle with our award winners from the past year.  It is fun to talk with these young women just beginning their careers and lives.

The current award winners will speak of their studies and plans.

Besides enjoying a wonderful lunch, you can also help in two other ways.  You can sponsor a student by paying for her lunch.  Or you can host a student by offering to sit beside her or give her a ride to lunch.

So please join us for a fun event next year.  The reservation form for lunch is linked below.  On the form, you can also indicate if you wish to sponsor or host a student.

This is a special event, near and dear to our hearts and we look forward to seeing you. We may even have a student who ‘sings for her supper’. Come to the lunch and find out what we mean!

Thanks from your S&B Board members

Susan Lane, Margaret Morrison, and Anny Schaefer
